Thing #5

Originally uploaded by borkencode I'm actually posting this entry directly from Flickr, and I'm loving how integrated this is. I may have to set up my personal blog here too, because it always drives me nuts trying to figure out a quick and easy way to post photos to my blog.

As for the picture, I got bored looking for an interesting library picture to blog about, so I thought I'd relive my wedding day a little with a picture a friend has up. Here I'm giving my husband a little help with the garter at our reception. Man, that was a fun day. I also forgot how much I love my wedding dress. If it wasn't so heavy, I'd probably wear it everyday because it's just so pretty and fits me so perfectly. Seriously, I wish every dress fit as well as this one that needed absolutely no altering.

7 1/2 Habits of Lifelong Learners

Reviewing the 7 1/2 Habits of Lifelong Learners Tutorial, I think the habits I struggle with most are habits #1: Begin With the End in Mind & #2: Accept Responsibility for Your Own Learning. I think lifelong learning has always been one of the appeals to librarianship for me, but because I never had to be convinced of it's worth, I'm generally content to learn whatever new knowledge crosses my path without much thought for an overall goal or plan. I think my struggles with #2 are somewhat related, but also having to do with the fact that I feel like I've been in school forever. I'm so used to a formalized learning environment where planned learning is overseen by an instructor. Since I'm not used to creating goals and plans for my self education, I have trouble remembering that I'm the one in charge of making sure I actually meet those goals.
